ABOUT

HOW IT STARTED

Sun Peaks Historical Society was started in May 2021, as a museum/archive project, initiated by Nancy Raine. Locals Nancy Raine, Peggy Leduc, Candise White and Kristin Passmore, founded Sun Peaks Historical Society with a shared ideology of the impermanence of Sun Peaks' early developers and pioneers. Their collective belief in the importance of documenting oral stories and archiving items of historical significance, lead them to incorporate the non-profit society in July 2021.

WHAT's NEXT?

Future initiatives for the non-profit society include application for government-funded grants, registration of members, securing of a physical space for holdings, and collecting/archiving oral histories and other documentation.

The program will also include an educational and community engagement/outreach component that includes a strong oral history element in keeping with the rich stories of the area and the foreseen enthusiasm of the community members, who contribute to it.
